Andy Kaufman Award

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to enter your original work in the 2015 Andy Kaufman Award™ competition:

Step One

Read the following criteria for selection of the award winner. Submissions that do not adhere to the criteria will not be eligible for consideration:

Originality

Andy Kaufman was one-of-a-kind, and so was his performing. While being inspired by another artist is probably unavoidable, true originality is self-inspired. Don’t borrow or be a copycat.

Creativity / Inventiveness

Creativity could be defined as “how” you express your originality. How creative is your material? How inventive are you?

Spirit

This is a quality that’s hard to define, but easy to recognize when it’s present. Is your performance infused with the spirit of Andy – described as courageous, unexpected, rebellious, subversive? Are you beyond the typical mainstream stand-up routine? Are you willing to go where no one has gone before?

Commitment

How committed are you? Do you have the confidence to go out on a limb? Are you willing to be misunderstood? Are you okay with not being liked?

Note:

The use of vulgarity or scatological language will not enhance your chance of winning. Neither is inherently original nor creative.

Please remember that we are not looking for another Andy Kaufman. Rather, we are seeking your own originality, creativity/inventiveness, spirit, and commitment to your art.
